With two straight wins against the Nigeria Customs, which they defeated 60 – 55 on Sunday, and yesterday’s 71 – 51 victory over Benue princess, the Inspector General of Police Queens, yesterday emerged as the first team to book a quarter final ticket at the on-going finals of the 11th edition of the annual Zenith Bank of Nigeria Women Basketball League holding at the Indoor Sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Also through to the Semi-finals are the defending Champions, First Bank of Lagos that had two wins also.
The Elephant girls defeated Benue Princess 95 – 30 in day one to earn their first victory before sending the Nigerian customs to the cleaners yesterday.
Group B top contenders, Dolphin’s of Lagos also cruised to the semi-finals yesterday after white washing Sunshine Angels of Akure in a game that looked one sided.
Excited over their victory, Captain of IGP Queens, Julie Onyelugo said she was happy for leading the police team to their first ever semi finals- in recent time since the commencement of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League 11 years ago, but added that the victory belonged to the entire team because it was a collective effort.
Also speaking, is teammate, Gift Samson stated that the best for the IGP Queens this year is to lift the Zenith Bank trophy as champions. According to her, their team this year is as good as emerging Champions.
