Beijing 2015: Okagbare returns to track for 200m

AFTER a disastrous finish in the 100m at the ongoing 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing on Monday, Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare returns to the track today for the 200m heat.
The double Commonwealth Games gold medallist finished the 100m in a disappointing time of 11.02 seconds to place last, a result which proved many bookmakers wrong.

Okagbare however, according to the Technical Manager of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Yusuf Alli, has put the sad memory of the 100m flop behind saying the Beijing 2008 Olympic bronze medallist is set for the 200m event at Bird’s Nest.
The Delta State-born sprinter will today run in heat three from lane four and Alli, a former Team Nigeria captain believes she won’t disappoint.
“But that (100m flop) is history now, in track and field many things change in a split of seconds, she has put Monday race behind her and she is focused on doing well in the 200m. She has what it takes to win a medal in the 200m event, she won a bronze medal at the Moscow 2013 edition of the World Championships. She has been doing well consistently in the 200m, I am positive she will win a medal,” the long jump national record holder said.
Also, Tosin Oke will be in action today as he competes in group A of the men’s triple jump.
The poor run of Nigeria at Beijing 2015 continued on Tuesday, as Patience George crashed out of the women’s 400m. She finished fourth in the heat two of the semi-final in 50.76 seconds.
