Oshiomhole wrong on N162bn NPA fund —Maritime group

NATIONAL President of the Maritime Stakeholders Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, has faulted claims by the governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, which alleged that the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) shortchanged the Federal Government in remitting its funds.

A statement by the group on Tuesday indicated that Oshiomhole was wrong to have claimed that NPA only remitted N2 billion to the federation account, though it made N162 billion.
The group said it was wrong for the govenor to claim that the NPA embezzled about N160 billion of the revenue it made.
Oshiomhole had, while addressing labour leaders at the National Delegates’ Conference of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja, alleged that the management of NPA generated N162 billion but remitted only N2 bilion to federation account.
Abdullahi, in a statement, said the NPA made remittances in line with the statutes setting up the organisation.
He said that the amount remitted was what was due to the Federal Government after deduction of lawful expenditures as provided for by law.
The group accused Oshiomhole of seeking cheap publicity, adding that “this is another deliberate attempt by the governor to rubbish the administration of former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, despite all that the administration did to transform the maritime sector of the economy."
